Artists

Creative parties, names, life events, credits, and classifications.

An artist represents a creative party in a catalogue, such as a person, group, orchestra, or other performer. MusiMap can describe an artist through names, aliases, life events, external identifiers, classifications, and credits.

Parameters

These parameters describe the artist itself. Related names, identifiers, and classifications are covered in the sections below.

Parameter	Description
`artist_type`	Whether the party is a person, group, orchestra, or other artist type.
`embodiment`	The nature of the artist (for example a human performer or a synthetic/AI-created persona).
`gender_identity`	Gender identity, when supplied by the catalogue owner. MusiMap does not infer this value.
`gender_self_description`	Free-text description when a fixed category does not apply.
`country`	Country associated with the artist, when known.
`area`	Broader geographic area (city, region, or country label), when known.
`disambiguation`	Note to distinguish artists with similar names.

Artist names

An artist may have multiple names, representing display, legal, stage, professional, localised, or former names. Each name is a complete string; MusiMap does not split names into given and family parts.

Field	Description
`name`	The full name (for example “Adele” or “Adele Adkins”).
`name_type`	How this name is used: display, legal, stage, professional, localised, or former.
`locale`	Language or region tag when the name applies to a specific locale.
`is_primary`	Whether this is the primary name of its type for presentation.

Artist aliases

An artist may also have aliases used for alternate spellings and discovery. Aliases support search; they are not used for credit display.

Life events

Life events can describe dated events such as birth, death, formation, or dissolution, with optional place information.

Field	Description
`event_type`	The kind of life event (for example birth, death, formation, or dissolution).
`date`	When the event occurred, with precision where known (year, month, or full date).
`place`	Place associated with the event, when known.

External references

External references capture identifiers from recognised authorities and providers, such as ISNI, MusicBrainz Artist IDs, or provider-specific artist identifiers.

Field	Description
`identifier_type`	What kind of identifier this is (for example ISNI, MusicBrainz Artist ID, or a provider-specific artist ID).
`value`	The identifier value as supplied by the source or catalogue owner.
`provider`	The authority or provider namespace (for example an industry registry, MusicBrainz, or your catalogue provider).

Vocabulary assignments

Classifications from your workspace or global vocabularies (for example genre tags from a source feed). These preserve source or catalogue-owner assertions.

Field	Description
`vocabulary`	The classification namespace (for example genre, internal_genre, or campaign_category).
`term`	The assigned value within that vocabulary (for example Soul, Hard Metal, or Christmas Campaign).
`weight`	Numeric weight or importance from the source or catalogue owner. This is not MusiMap analytical confidence.
`catalog_scope`	Limits this classification to a specific catalogue when required; otherwise it applies to the entity throughout the workspace.

Credits

Contributions this artist makes on works, tracks, or releases.

Field	Description
`credited_name`	How the contributor is credited when no resolved artist record exists.
`artist`	Link to a contributor artist record, when resolved.
`artist_name`	Link to a specific name on the contributor (for example a stage name rather than a legal name).
`role`	The contribution role (for example main artist, composer, producer, or performer).
`order`	Display order among credits on the same entity.
