MusiSearch

Natural-language music discovery, exposed in the API as Discovery.

Overview

MusiSearch is MusiMap's natural-language music discovery product. Describe the music you want in plain words, such as “sad music with a little bit of rock and female vocals” or “the happiest music for a night in a bar”, and MusiSearch returns matching tracks.

The product is called MusiSearch in the dashboard. In the Web API the same capability is called Discovery. This page explains the product. For request and response details, use the Discovery API guide.

How a search works

  • You describe moods, styles, context, or intent in prose.
  • Searching happens inside a session. The first search creates it, and follow-up searches in the same session refine the current intent.
  • The catalogue you search is chosen when the session starts and stays the same for that session. Start a new session to search a different catalogue or to begin unrelated work.
  • Each result carries a relevance_score (intrinsic relevance to the query), a relative_score (relative to the best result of the same search) and short public reasons for the match.
  • A turn returns a bounded result set. Results are not paginated, and re-running the same query later is a new execution (not another “page” of the original hits).
  • To recover what a previous turn returned, open that session's turn history rather than repeating the query.

The full session model and result-set semantics are in the Discovery API guide.

Use MusiSearch when the request is descriptive and open ended. Use Catalogue Search when your criteria are explicit: title and artist terms, taxonomy tag IDs, identifiers, or audio-feature ranges. Catalogue Search does not interpret natural language, and MusiSearch does not replace structured filters.

Credits

Billable MusiSearch turns use Discovery credits. The public credit key is discovery. The first successful billable turn costs 1 Discovery credit and covers up to 10 billable turns in that session; each billable turn after the tenth costs 1 more. Having zero Discovery credits does not mean the product is disabled: it means billable turns cannot run until credits are added. Balances and history are described in Credits. Full billing rules are in the Discovery API guide.

In the API

Discovery is the Web API capability for MusiSearch. Scopes, sessions, and request shapes are described in the Discovery API guide.
